Construction of a two storey post primary school for 325 pupils, comprising of classrooms ,special needs unit, specialist class rooms, PE Hall, social areas, administration rooms, stores, ancillary spaces, with associated site works and new entrance with adjustment of road boundary

External Work

Forming of a new entrance to the site, construction of a car park with 34 spaces including disabled spaces and a bus set down area, forming roads paths and paving’s, 3 external ball courts and enclosing the site with a 2.4m high weld mesh fence and associated storm, foul and water main works.


The external facades of the building were finished with a mixture of painted render, clay bricks, curtain wall screens and windows. The roof was finished with a Kingzip Kingspan panel. The internal finishes were predominately painted fair faced blocks, exposed M&E services, suspended ceilings, painted doors, skirting’s and architrave, the floors were mainly marmoleum with small areas of resin and tile


The sub structure works involved reducing the site to formation level, piling the building, forming ground beams and placing hollow core slabs on same for the ground floor.


The super structure works involved the casting of insitu columns, walls and beams along with load bearing block work to carry the first floor which was a mixture of hollow core slabs and insitu floors. The roof was supported with structural steel which was supported by insitu columns, beams and load bearing blockwork.


The heating to the school is by 2 oil fired boilers, the hot water is by an oil fire calorifier, other mechanical systems include mechanical extraction and ventilation to various rooms and dust extraction from the wood technology room. The electrical systems included CCTV, Fire Alarm, Intruder alarm, lightening protection, emergency Lighting, lights, sockets, dado trunking, power supplies, data centre and access control. A 2 stop lift was also fitted in the school.
